Benefits Of Acupuncture

It Makes You Less Stressed: Acupuncture takes the edge off. It removes you from the perpetual state of sympathetic dominance in which so many of us find ourselves. By mellowing out the nervous system, acupuncture can help you feel less affected by and better equipped to manage the stressful aspects of life.

Clears Your Head: In addition to the surge of physical energy that follows, many people notice improved mental clarity after acupuncture. They’re able to make decisions faster with greater confidence. They feel more motivated and resolute about tackling items that have been lingering for months on their to-do lists. It’s as if the mental cobwebs have been cleared out. Suddenly, you will be out of your own way.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a healing technique of Traditional Chinese medicine that has been practiced for centuries. It's based on the theory that energy, called chi (say "chee"), flows through and around your body along pathways called meridians. Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when something blocks or unbalances your chi. Acupuncture is a way to unblock or influence chi and help it flow back into balance. The technique has been most often studied scientifically which involves penetrating the skin with very thin needles at certain points on your body. This is done to influence the energy flow. Sometimes heat, pressure, or mild electrical current is used along with needles.

What Happens During Acupuncture?

First, you’ll come in and give the acupuncturist your health history. The acupuncturist will look at your tongue and take your wrist pulses. We use these as clues in order to diagnose and treat you, efficiently and above and beyond your expectation.
Next, you will lie down on the massage table. The acupuncturist will needle you and if you'd like, place a heat lamp over your feet or low abdomen so you will stay cozy. They’ll make sure you are comfortable, turn on soothing music, then leave the room so you can rest and relax.
Then, the acupuncturist will check in on you and see if anything needs adjusting. If it doesn’t, they’ll leave you to continue relaxing. If you have a condition that requires needles on your front and on the back, she may come in, take out the needles, and do a treatment on the opposite side.
When the treatment is over, the acupuncturist will remove the needles and let you get up from the table slowly. It is recommended that you drink a little water before you leave. After your appointment, it's okay to go about your normal routine, but avoid anything that is overly strenuous.
