Should I Contact My Family Doctor?
Being in a car accident can be a stressful and chaotic time where decisions need to be made quickly and you’re not quite sure what the right thing to do is.
Should I go to the hospital?
Should I see my family doctor?
Should I see a surgeon?
If you’ve been in an accident and have been injured and feel you need to be seen immediately, by all means, don’t hesitate―go straight to the ER. If it’s not an emergency, but you think you may have suffered any kind of injury or physical distress, you should be seen by a physician as soon as you can. The state of Florida limits the amount of time you have to be seen by a doctor after an accident to 14 days or you lose your insurance claim benefits.
But does that doctor have to be my family doctor?
No, however, we do recommend that you notify your family doctor that you’ve been in an accident and that you are seeing a specialist. Often, by the time your doctor can fit you into his or her busy schedule, you could have already been seen and diagnosed by us. We know how important your time is and will get you in to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible.
Our SafeCare Docs clinics have relationships within insurance networks, and we work with many different specialists such as:
Pediatric Nerve Surgeons
Once you’ve come in for your initial assessment, we can determine if you need to see one of these specialists or if our doctors can come up with a treatment plan for you that may involve spinal manipulation, physical therapy, or massage therapy.
Our doctors specialize in soft tissue damage and will look for any hidden injuries that the ER doctor may have missed or that you may not have even felt yourself. Hidden injuries can be very dangerous and should be diagnosed as soon as possible before they develop into something more serious.
If you see a surgeon first, he or she may take a quick look at you and say that you don’t need surgery. You may think this means you’re fine, but there’s a good chance this isn’t the case. Unlike your surgeon, SafeCare Docs look for structural and functional problems first, and if we feel you are a strong candidate for surgery, we’ll get you to the right surgeon to look at that area.
We’ll determine the type of specialist that would be the best one to treat you. We’ll assess you and make a recommendation so you don’t have to figure it all out yourself. Auto accidents are stressful enough without having to research what kind of doctor you may need. We’re here to help. We’ll diagnose you and discuss your options with you, and together we’ll decide what the best next step so you can get on with your recovery.
